ZOOM-Workshops
January – October 2024
Over the course of 15 online Zoom workshops, Ukrainian and German experts from the fields of art, science, craftsmanship, and manufacturing shared their knowledge, skills, and practical experience with one another, focusing on hemp, straw, clay, reed, sheep’s wool, and fungal mycelium as sustainable building materials.
With each workshop, the network continued to grow. One of the outcomes of this collaboration is the trilingual Material Book, which brings together traditional knowledge and contemporary research. The publication is available as Open Access and can be downloaded free of charge in Ukrainian, English, and German.
This is an excellent project. Especially for people who have experienced trauma, the opportunity to create and rebuild something tangible is extremely important – provided they are not in a state of severe dissociation that could put them at risk if they have not yet learned how to manage such conditions. Many people do not necessarily require trauma therapy; they are able to process and cope with their experiences when they have a sense of safety, positive human connection, and the real opportunity to build a meaningful future – quite literally in this case.
