ZOOM-Workshops
January – October 2024

In 15 Zoom workshops, Ukrainian and German experts from the fields of art, science, craftsmanship, and production shared their skills, knowledge, and practices regarding hemp, straw, clay, reed, sheep’s wool, and fungal mycelium. The network grew with each workshop. One outcome of this initiative is a trilingual book on materials—combining traditional knowledge with current research—which is available as an open-access publication for free download in Ukrainian, English, and German.

A wonderful project—and the ability to engage in concrete acts of creation or construction is particularly important for trauma survivors, provided they are not in a state of severe dissociation that puts them at risk because they do not yet know how to manage such states. After all, many do not require trauma therapy; instead, they are able to process their experiences and find ways to cope when they have a sense of safety, positive human connection, and a tangible opportunity to build a meaningful future (in this case, quite literally).
