Although it contains various useful chemicals, it is used to a lesser extent for mulching in the garden and is sometimes burned to generate energy, but is not used in as many ways as wood. As a by-product of the wood industry, it is either processed into briquettes or burned as a waste product, causing unnecessaryCO2 emissions.

Bark currently makes up around 10% – 20% of the entire tree. This means that German sawmills produce around 4 million m³ of residual bark every year. If the bark is peeled, its potential can be exploited in architectural applications.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.25.1″ _module_preset=”default” link_text_color=”#7cc68d” header_2_font=”Inter||||||||” header_2_line_height=”1.4em” header_4_font_size=”16px” header_4_line_height=”1.2em” global_colors_info=”{}” theme_builder_area=”post_content”]

Tree bark

Catalog page by Charlett Wenig and Johanna Hehemeyer-Cuerten – Exhibition ZNE! 2023

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row use_custom_gutter=”on” gutter_width=”2″ make_equal=”on” _builder_version=”4.25.1″ _module_preset=”default” width=”94%” custom_padding=”2px||5px|||” global_colors_info=”{}” theme_builder_area=”post_content”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.25.1″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}” theme_builder_area=”post_content”][et_pb_image src=”https://hope-home.info/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/katalog-Weni-Cuerten-Barchproject-scaled.jpg” title_text=”catalog-NorbertHoepfer-tiny-house” show_in_lightbox=”on” force_fullwidth=”on” _builder_version=”4.25.1″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}” theme_builder_area=”post_content”][/et_pb_image][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.25.1″ _module_preset=”default” link_text_color=”#29C4A9″ global_colors_info=”{}” theme_builder_area=”post_content”]

Link to the website Recommended for imitation!

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section][et_pb_section fb_built=”1″ _builder_version=”4.25.1″ _module_preset=”default” background_color=”rgba(255,255,255,0)” custom_padding=”4px|||||” global_colors_info=”{}” theme_builder_area=”post_content”][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.25.1″ _module_preset=”default” width=”94%” global_colors_info=”{}” theme_builder_area=”post_content”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.25.1″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}” theme_builder_area=”post_content”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.25.1″ _module_preset=”default” header_2_font=”Inter||||||||” global_colors_info=”{}” theme_builder_area=”post_content”]

Charlett Wenig and Johanna Hehemeyer-Cürten | Contribution to the exhibition ZNE! 2023

The Bark Project: Sustainable objects made from tree bark by combining science and design

[/et_pb_text][modula_gallery gallery_select=”4638″ _builder_version=”4.25.1″ _module_preset=”default” background_color=”RGBA(255,255,255,0)” global_colors_info=”{}” theme_builder_area=”post_content”][/modula_gallery][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]

In the timber industry, tree bark has tended to be regarded as an inferior waste product.
