HOPE HOME \u2022 \u041d\u0410\u0414\u0406\u042f is a German-Ukrainian pilot project for a radically different \u2013ecological\u2013 construction in Ukraine<\/strong>; Under the umbrella of Be An Angel e.V., we have been asking for donations since December 24 for public and private houses in Pervomaiske that were destroyed by early Russian attacks<\/strong>. From this community in the Mykolaiv district we want to stand up to the global cartel of the concrete industry<\/strong> with the residents, using the renewable, CO\u2082-free building materials hemp, straw, wood, clay and reed, fungi and sheep’s wool<\/strong>, and thereby show that building without CO\u2082 emissions is possible!<\/div>\n
Pervomaiske<\/strong> wants to become a pilot region<\/strong> for research into ecological construction using renewable, hybrid and recycled materials<\/strong>. Create jobs<\/strong>. We have set this out in a memorandum with the district government. Due to the provisional budget in Germany, not even the slightest public support can be expected before September 2025. But we know from all the news channels what the situation is regarding the energy supply in Ukraine, the many uninhabitable houses and the exhaustion of the people, not least due to the misguided US policy.<\/div>\n
With the donations from HOPE HOME \u2022 \u041d\u0410\u0414\u0406\u042f<\/strong> so far, we have renovated a room in the community centre and created new perspectives for young people<\/strong> in Pervomaiske. Where once 9.000 people lived, only 2.500 remain today – among them only 300 young people. The school destroyed; no bakery, no snack bar, no restaurant, no room for young people. In a workshop for walls and stones made of straw\/clay and hemp\/lime compounds, we worked with local young people to prepare a 150 m\u00b2 youth club using these natural, climate-friendly materials.<\/div>\n

The impact of the workshop is enormous<\/strong>: the conviction that “Concrete is better, more modern.” turned into “Now we can repair my grandma’s house.” and “Can’t we start a small eco-building business in the village?” In the process, the precious feeling of self-efficacy and community became reality. The room is to be completed with funding from a UN organisation as part of a youth exchange programme.<\/div>\n
Challenge<\/strong>: International aid organisations continue to rely on concrete – cheap, fast, harmful to the climate. We show that there is a different, more sustainable way.<\/div>\n
Our vision<\/strong>: to establish a permanent pilot project for “Healing Architecture” in this community – with local resources, transdisciplinary knowledge and genuine participation.<\/div>\n

What we could achieve now, following this positive experience, with an additional 3.000 EUR in donations<\/strong>: We could enable hands-on training for more young people in hemp and clay construction. Thanks to the previous donations, we still have materials available, tools have been purchased, and mentors have been trained! All of this would take place through the concrete example of the “Grandmother’s House”, who has returned to her animals and roses in to her heavily damaged home. This could create a visible sign, an “example to follow!”.<\/div>\n

HOPE HOME \u2022 \u041d\u0410\u0414\u0406\u042f has quickly become the center of a transdisciplinary network for the use of renewable building materials<\/strong>, dealing with the entire spectrum of sustainable construction: from the necessary soil decontamination, the cultivation of biological building materials, the reuse of materials from destroyed houses, and model house construction, as well as questions of certification and scalability. The residents from Pervomaiske appreciate the sign of our support and empathy<\/strong>, and the experience that we are not just making promises for an indefinite future but are putting the memorandum into practice is encouraging them.<\/div>\n

An Tagen wie diesen, zu Anfang des Juni, sieht es hier tats\u00e4chlich aus wie die Fahne; unten der gelbe Weizen, oben das Blau. Hin und wieder ist es so still, dass sogar die Hunde Langeweile haben. Drei offensichtlich nicht verwandte liegen gemeinsam an einer Kreuzung und warten darauf, dass wenigstens ein Fahrrad kommt. …<\/p>\n
